At this point in time (2010), the bright LED light and can be used as a source of low energy light than CFLs in many situations, but they are not cost effective. The BR40 15 watt equivalent LED bulb 100W is my first. I have several 5-7 watt LED lights and new Evolux 13 watt (100 watt equivalent) bulbs.

BR40 has a diameter slightly larger, so installing it become involved in reshaping the floor lamp shade harp. I am very satisfied withBR40 brightness of the ball, but unlike other LED lights I have bought, BR40 has a lag between the play and see it light up. As if it was charging on the weight, then sends power to the LED.

BR40 seems to be a substitute for a large low-energy 23-watt CFL that I previously had on the floor lamp. Energy conservation is not cost effective (10 watts per hour), but LEDs have no mercury in it and they may last for 50 years of normal use. ItAnother advantage of CFLs is their low heat generation.

Basically, there are no cost advantages by using the 120 volt LED bulbs. It's just green. However, I have an LED desk lamp that is powered by a 9 volt adapter; during power outages, this light has provided light for eight hours of use (3) 9 volt battery used me.

I think the future home will have an additional 9 to 12 volts for LED lighting circuits. Currently, the ball must use 120 volts and converted to lowDC voltage.
